Who We Are
|
At St. James, people of all ages step forward to share their talents and personal ministries with our church and our community. We convey the best qualities of small town, small church life. We are workers and business people. We are farmers, we are professionals, and we are retirees with great skills and life experiences. Our church family strives to ensure that God's work is done and people are welcome. You matter! You are welcome here! Join us on our walk with God.

Our Congregation
For the past 135 years, St. James has fostered a strong sense of family in Louisa, quick to support parishioners both young and young at heart! Our church family is growing in spirit and in number. St. James members include multi-generational families and recent Louisa newcomers. We are a part of the Episcopal Church in the Diocese of Virginia. We share the same prayers and readings, each week, with our brothers and sisters in other parishes throughout the country. This mode of worship allows us to be one voice in our unique contexts. Here in the small town of Louisa, we focus on knowing each other so that we might serve one another. |
This fabulous article below was written by one of our own, Linda Salisbury who has since moved to Florida, and speaks of the wonderful ministry of Quilts of Valor, and our own Marie Farrell and Barbara Primiani, who share their talents in this ministry to our Veterans. George Marshall, one of our eldest members and a WWII vet, is also highlighted in this article. So proud to be part of this parish and the of service and ministry of our members!

Tara Ford, Minister of Music
Some of Tara's earliest childhood memories are of making music: picking out Sunday school melodies on a toy piano and singing in children’s choirs. She has been playing and singing ever since, and she is happy to be engaged in church music today. A native of Orange, Virginia, she chose to study French and music at Hollins College; she later completed coursework in the graduate Church Music program at Shenandoah Conservatory.
Residing in Orange, Virginia, Tara is in her second year of teaching music at nearby Orange Elementary School. For fun, she loves batting balls around a tennis court, getting her fingers into the garden dirt, and listening to and watching the feathered choristers of the natural world.

Our Leaders
The Vestry is the governing body of Saint James. It consists of 6 to 9 members who are elected to rotating three year terms by the congregation. Episcopal churches entrust the everyday management of church affairs to their elected representatives.
The Vestry members also are, along with the Rector, spiritual leaders of the congregation. Their responsibilities go much deeper than ensuring the furnaces and air-conditioning work. They are expected to and do set a Christian example for their brothers and sisters in Christ.
They also serve as a communication conduit within the church. Members are invited to express their encouragements, concerns and ideas to the Vestry at any time. By doing so, they help the church grow and prosper.
