Our Vestry
The Vestry is the governing body of Saint James. It consists of nine members who are elected to rotating three year terms by the congregation. Unlike congregational churches where decisions are made by the membership as a whole, Episcopal churches entrust the everyday management of church affairs to their elected representatives. The Vestry members also are, along with the Rector, the spiritual leaders of the congregation. Their responsibilities go much deeper than ensuring the furnaces and air-conditioning work. They are expected to and do set a Christian example for their brothers and sisters in Christ. They serve as the communication conduit within the church. Members are encouraged to express their concerns and ideas to the Vestry on a regular basis. By doing so, they help the church to grow and prosper. Service on the Vestry is a high honor indeed and a sobering responsibility. Saint James Episcopal Church |
